Recently, I came across an intriguing survey entitled ‘5 things I find attractive in a spouse’. As I scrolled through the 25 responses, mostly from women, I found myself nodding and raising an eyebrow in equal measure.
There wasn’t any analysis provided, so I figured why not put on my detective hat and present you with my take on it? Not everyone provided a comprehensive answer or listed five traits, but for those who did, here’s a quick summary:
The gold medal went to physical attributes (a captivating blend of eyes, teeth, hands, smile, and the most cherished – the rear end), bagging 18 votes. Next up, the silver trophy was awarded to a sense of humour, which sparked laughter in 10 voters’ hearts. The bronze went to unconditional love and affection, with 8 people valuing this trait.
Surprisingly, intelligence was an eye-catcher for 7 people, landing it the fourth spot. Finally, sharing the fifth position were ‘Father of child/parenting skills’ and ‘Kindness/caring’, with 6 votes each. What I found fascinating was that the traditional virtues like honor, respect, diligence, generosity, and sincerity barely managed a shout-out with just one vote each.
It seems we invest an awful lot of energy trying to ‘remodel’ our partners because they don’t quite tick all our expectation boxes (a potential heartache inducer #6). They may not ‘perform’ as per our expectations or treat us the way we’d like. But if we pause and reflect, we realize most of the traits we adore about our partners are innate to them. No amount of persuasion will magically transform an uncaring person into a compassionate, loving one!
So, my two pence on this is: if you’re lucky enough to have found someone who: • Has a sparkling sense of humour • Is intelligent • Offers unconditional love • Is kind-hearted and caring, And let’s not forget, possesses the skills you need to make your business successful, then you’ve probably hit the relationship jackpot!
